5 Rabbit Holes Worth Exploring
As cheesy as it is, “rabbit hole” is an excellent image for the binge-worthy content we’re sharing today. It begins with the initial allure of an idea, and by pursuing it further you realize that there’s actually an entirely different world of thought waiting for you to explore. You may spend time twisting and turning but eventually emerge from the depths, changed.
We long for the golden age of internet content, where you could easily get lost in a blog’s archives and have your mind blown by ideas written by people genuinely excited to explore just for the sake of it. These experiences are still possible today, but it’s getting so difficult to find the right conversations or new voices that the Dead Internet Theory seems more and more plausible (only partially kidding!). So we’re doing our part. In our first of many curated roundups, we’re highlighting fascinating articles and videos that each open up to their own world of research and discussion. This one is short and sweet, four wildly different topics and one hilarious short film.
Trend Forecasting Is Dead: Long Live Trends
“Trend Forecasting is Dead: Long Live Trends w/ Sean Monahan” is an engaging presentation by the co-founder of K-HOLE, a trend forecasting collective with a true finger on the pulse of pop culture (e.g. they coined the term “norm-core”). Sean walks you through the history of trend forecasting and how the industry has changed in light of technology and new social dynamics. This report is one of many in the larger series: Internet Real Life (IRL) which was hosted by Katherine Dee & Peter Limberg and described as “a series exploring the shift toward a new way of relating to the internet—one beyond naive optimism or doomer pessimism.” If this piques your interest, all videos in the series can be found in The Stoa and here’s more on trends from Sean Monahan (Substack).
Transpersonal Psychology and AI
This two part series (Part I and Part II) is modestly subtitled “an interpretation of astrological themes using generated images” by Craig Weinberg (Multi-sense Realism) but the insights reach far beyond what you may expect. It’s a simple premise: prompting AI to generate an image depicting the state of the world within a certain date range, only the dates chosen are based on Neptune’s path through the zodiac. The AI is not given that context and the results are surprisingly fitting when considered in light of Neptune in each sign.
They tell a compelling story about our tragic relationship with technology; the optimism of early transportation and engineering leading quickly to war and then mass marketing dystopia. Craig is thorough in his descriptions of each image, calling attention to subtle details and making very interesting connections between the imagery and concepts associated with each astrological sign. But there is much left for the reader to discover, you will really enjoy studying the bizarre creations and their symbolic significance.
The Forgotten History of Moral Therapeutic Deism
Anyone familiar with Moldbug’s Crypto-Calvinism theory will appreciate Part I and Part II on Moral Therapeutic Deism, the religious framework revealed by a study to underpin the majority of American worldviews regardless of stated religious identification.
The first video details the study itself, the tenets of Moral Therapeutic Deism, and then outlines the history of Unitarian Universalism to show the inextricable connection and central role shaping American values throughout our history. The second video questions if these ideas remain dominant given the rapid and dramatic changes to our socio-political climate in the past decade. When originally published, these videos sparked excellent discussion from Paul Vanderklay and others in This Little Corner that are worth the listen if you want to go deeper.

This collection of articles spotlighting “the new generation of luxuries” is a great resource for fellow lovers of both luxury and analysis. Oren has both extensive industry experience and natural intuition in this field. He highlights current luxury trends and the underlying psychological and cultural influences at work. What makes a brand boring or stagnant vs magnetic and appealing to the modern eye? How has accessibility irreversibly shaped the way others perceive and interact with the luxury world? His Youtube channel is an unfiltered goldmine for further information on these questions and the ins and outs of modern luxury, from both a consumer and creator’s perspective.
Spooners + The Spooners Press Tour
Ending on a light note, this hilarious short film by Grace Reiter and The Micho Brothers turned into a rabbit hole when they followed up with a fictional press tour with “interviews” almost funnier than the original video. We won’t spoil anything, here’s the full playlist!
